Vacation! Newport Beach and Trader Sam's

Brent and I just got back from an absolute dream of a vacation. After quite a crazy year filled with a move across country and new jobs for us both, we were so ready for a getaway. Our flight left on a Saturday evening so we had all day to prepare for the trip which was quite nice. Brent received a special birthday package just in time... thank goodness because there was a most fabulous vintage Aloha shirt inside!
Hubby brought this shirt along for the trip and wore it several times!
We arrived at our hotel around 11:00pm and decided that we just couldn't pass up a chance to visit Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel
Late-night walk to Trader Sam's.
HippopatoMai Tai and a Shipwreck on the Rocks. We ended up buying the Shipwreck tiki mug for our collection! The fun thing about Trader Sam's is that the room somewhat comes alive happen when you order certain drinks. For example, when I ordered the "Shipwreck", the bartender sprayed water and rang a bell and a few other surprises as well. More on that later.

Picture is a bit dark but it is a proper dimly lit tiki bar after all...

Bar area.

Perhaps my favorite part of the bar... this gorgeous fake window. The volcanoes erupt when people order a Krakatoa Punch. I need to have one of these in my house.
We enjoyed the next morning as we ate breakfast by the pool, then walked to Downtown Disney and some of the Disneyhotels.
If you haven't seen the new line of classic merchandise yet, prepare to be blown away! This store in Downtown Disney only had the Adventureland themed merch and I didn't even know where to start. I ended up buying a set of Enchanted Tiki Room coasters for our bar. The glasses and plates were incredible but I knew it wouldn't fit in my suitcase.

Back at the hotel for a bit of relaxation and lunch. There was never anyone there, it was so nice!

My vacation activities for the trip included: Mr. Churchill's Secretary and socks for Hubby. I highly recommend the book, it's definitely a page turner filled with mystery, espionage, and best of all... 1940s fashion and hair commentary:) The socks are the 5th or 6th set that I've made from this pattern, just a great basic sock.

After a brief respite, we drove to Newport beach. The weather was incredible and the ocean felt so nice (though a bit too chilly to actually go swimming). It did take us a REALLY long time to find parking so we stayed for the rest of the day.

Hubby has been itching for a sailboat for quite some time...

We found a restaurant along the beach and stopped for drinks and dinner.

View from the bar.

Once our table was ready, we were right up against the edge with a fabulous view of the ocean. I think Brent was tired of posing for the camera.

Enjoying the view and eats.

Of course, we had to try their Mai Tai. It was pretty strong.

Frozen dipped banana!

This. Is. Disney. To me anyway... it's a bit of a tradition to get the Minnie's Bake Shop cookies and a bottle of cheap wine to snack on throughout my stay. I always plan to take a few boxes of the cookies home but they never seem to make it....
On the agenda for the next day: Disneyland Park!
