Disney Break

I've pulled some really fun links to share about Disney parks and news. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! Eventually, I would love to scan some images from my 1964 Disney Land souvenir book as well.

The Tiki Room Renovation
The World According to Jack The Enchanted Tiki Room: A Look Back
The Tiki Room has recently been renovated in Walt Disney World. This attraction is no longer under "new management" but has been somewhat restored to the original. Read the fantastic blog article to see the history of this classic attraction. Also, take a look at his article on the refurbishment.

Horizons Pavilion (previously located in Epcot park)
A video featured in the old Horizons ride: "Magic Highway USA"
The Horizons attraction closed in 1999 but it always reminded me of Jules Verne's 1960s-esque version of the future. The link above will take you to a youtube video with the last few minutes of "Magin Highway USA", a cartoon from 1958 featured in Horizons.

It's the Muppets!!
OK GO and the Muppets: Muppet theme song video Link
The Muppets and I go way back, I grew up loving the Muppet Show, the movies, Muppet babies, and all things Jim Henson. I'm pretty sure it can all be traced back to my first experience with them at Muppet Vision 3D in MGM Studios. To this day I believe this attraction to be one of the most innovative, hilarious, entertaining, and fun of all the shows.

To explain the link a bit better, the Muppets have a new movie coming out (hooray) and have just released a new CD of amazing bands covering some of the classic songs. The video link above will take you to OK GO's version of the theme song... the Muppets + OK GO = unbelievable!

Club 33
Take a look inside the mysterious Club 33
I only heard about this recently during a visit to Disney Land last summer when Corinne let me in on the secret. This article takes you inside the infamous Club 33.

Tea Time at the Grand Floridian
For a fun alternative to the parks, have a lovely Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian
This is a fun article on the tea time offered at the Grand Floridian. It's a great idea for an alternative to the parks.

In case you didn't already know, I've been a bit of a nut for all things Disney every since I was a little mouse:

Boy did I love that Snow White dress:

Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend, I know I am!

Shiny and the Spoon CD Release Show

Last week was the CD release show for Shiny and the Spoon at the Southgate house. What a wonderful turn out there was - they filled the ballroom!!

If you're not familiar with this duo, you absolutely need to check out their music. These two are phenomenal and the songs are so much fun.

There was a wonderful line up of artists playing at the show:

Lisa Walker from Wussy sounded fantastic!

The Hiders put on a wonderful show

The Rubber Knife Gang knocked my socks off as always and they are on their way to a European tour!

Sadly I wasn't able to get as many photos as I wanted. I was working the merchandise booth and there were so many great bands and CDs that people were buying it all up! They kept me busy but it was such a blast.

Shiny and the Spoon making sweet music:

Here I am at the end of the night with the impressive cash box. I was a little tired... it was way past my bed time.
I hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Maple Pecan Muffins

This week I tried a new recipe from my favorite cookbook. These Maple Pecan Muffins turned out delicious and were quick to whip up. They were a hit at the party at work!

This recipe is almost exactly the same as the Banana Cinnamon Muffins that I've posted about before. The only difference in ingredients is using maple syrup and pecans instead of cinnamon and bananas.

Start by sifting together:
- 2 2/3 cups all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

As a tip, I always sift the flour before I measure it and then sift all the dry ingredients twice (three times if it is heavily spiced like spice cookies, gingerbread, etc).

Then put 1 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 egg, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla in a bowl and mix. Slowly pour in the flour mixture and beat until just incorporated.

Pour in 5 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted) and mix in. Now stir in your maple syrup (half of 3/4 cup of your favorite maple syrup... you will use the other half later).

Finally, mix in about 1 2/3 cup of crushed pecans by hand.

This is the maple syrup that I used, the "real stuff" as my fiance says!

Line your muffin pan with paper cups and pour in the batter until about 2/3 full. Then drizzle your remaining maple syrup over the tap and place a pecan half in the center.

Cook in a preheated 325 degree oven for 20-30 minutes or until golden and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.

I was really happy with these little delights and will certainly be making them again!

I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend. The Shiny and the Spoon CD release party was a blast, there will be a few pics this week. I spent the rest of the weekend running errands but got a chance to knit and have a scrumptious dinner with Dr. Fiance today. I also got a gorgeous blue dress that looks like it was made probably in the early 60s! Pictures to come :)

Laundry Day is a Very Dangerous Day...

Just a quick entry today... It's Friday! I hope everyone had a nice week and is getting ready for a lovely relaxing weekend. The weather in Cincinnati has been perfect for the last few days and I have been loving it!

Well just for fun I thought I'd share some pictures from laundry day last week... Pierre apparently enjoys a basket full of warm clean clothing just as much as us humans:

hehe.... that grin on his face is just hilarious!

Well this weekend should be packed with fun hopefully! Tonight we are having a quiet evening in and tomorrow we are working the merchandise booth for Shiny and the Spoon's CD release party. If you haven't checked out this duo's music yet, you need to - they never cease to amaze!

I also wanted to squeeze in a bit of shopping before Monday rolls around... I've had my eye on these 2 two-tired tables (say that three times fast!) at the store:

Well, enjoy your weekends everyone!
